We sometimes ask ourselves if we are foolish or mad to take on the projects we do!
Each property based in Knowstone North Devon has been either lovingly restored or built and sometimes a bit of both.
Enfield House is a 13th century workers cottage we bought in 2016. We then spent the next 3 years restoring it inside and out. The end result is a truly romantic retreat. This 13th century thatched cottage hideaway is an intoxicating mix of the old and new where 21st century luxuries are artfully combined with original features to create a stunning place to stay.
Luckett Farm is a 16th century farm/manor house we managed to buy in late 2019. The property had sadly fallen into a state of disrepair, our first winter ( a very wet one) was spent with tarpaulins on the thatched roof, various creatures living in our leaky roof and no heating! By the summer of 2021 we had a new
North Devon’s large areas of open moorland, rolling hills and farmland provide a sense of remoteness and tranquillity rare in southern Britain today. Spectacular coastal views, deep wooded valleys, high sea cliffs and fast flowing streams all combine to form a rich and distinct mosaic.
It is a landscape that has inspired poets writers and artists for hundreds of years and continues to inspire people today.
If its a rural escape your after look no further.
Absolutely stunning views, this peaceful spot is ideal for a romantic getaway. Owners are lovely and have put so much effort into every detail. Hawkings hideaway was Warm and cosy plenty of firewood. Very spacious (we have 2 American bullys) plenty of space. We watched the beautiful sunset and saw deer in the valley in the mornings. Hot tub was a lovely extra, our dogs had miles to explore, the stream just down from the hideaway is beautiful and the surrounding area stunning. Defo recommend Tarr steps, beautiful walk with running streams. – we will definitely be back it was perfect and would highly recommend
Enfield house was a beautiful restored thatched cottage, both inside and outside.
The large log burning fireplace made the evening very cosy, whilst the furniture was comfortable and stylish. The kitchen / dining room was fabulous and the small garden behind had stunning views for miles… The bedrooms where perfectly made up ready for use. The bathroom was the centrepiece of the house with the stunning stand alone large bath. We had a very peaceful week here, literally ‘checked in and dropped out’ If you’re looking for peace and quiet in a beautiful quintessential English village – Enfield house is the place for you
Enfield house is an absolutely beautiful cottage and would highly recommend staying here and will definitely be returning. It was homely and well Equipped with lots of lovely little touches that made us as a family of four with our dog feel welcomed. We took up the recommendations of things to do in the local area and places to eat and enjoyed every part of our stay. Hosts where very attentive making sure our stay was everything we needed. 10/10 on every level!
Thanks for a wonderful stay. We had such a great weekend! Loved the interior of the hut and the outside space is really well thought out. And great views. We’ll be back!
Enfield house is a gem of a property, we really loved our stay and felt very at home and welcomed. The views from the garden of the fields are stunning and we watched a few gorgeous sunsets.
The village is very quiet and we had a peaceful stay, just the sound of sheep and horses going out for a morning ride and passing our windows.
We loved how the cottage had been lovingly restored and enjoyed the comfy beds, sofas and very well equipped kitchen. A perfect place to stay and explore North Devon, we would love to come back again.
From the moment we walked in the door we were able to relax; the cottage is homely and comfy and equiped with everything you might need and we felt at home.
The bed in the master bedroom was extremely comfortable and we had plenty of space. The shower in the very luxurious bathroom was very powerful and great after a day’s walking. It was lovely to have breakfast and sundowners in the garden where the views were limitless, we really felt as though we had escaped our working lives.
The location was quiet and peaceful yet provided excellent access to the beautiful North Devon beaches and was conveniently placed between Exmoor and Dartmoor and there is speedy access from the M5.
Just wanted to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Luckett Farm. You and Sarah have a beautiful property set in an idyllic location which I’m sure will prove very popular with you guests. Ann added bonus was dining at The Masons Arms, we loved it
We’ll be back!
