The detail
Located on Luckett Farm in the village of Knowstone, on the edge of Exmoor in North Devon. Keepers Lodge is a rural retreat. This lodge is part of a 16th century grade II listed thatched Devon long house which has been beautifully built and restored, with some original features preserved and modern luxuries added. You’ll find this lodge is packed with character, with the exposed wooden beams and inglenook fireplace, vaulted ceilings perfectly complemented by contemporary furnishings. Keepers Lodge is surrounded by rolling hills and river valleys and there’s even a Michelin Star pub in the village.
Step inside and you’ll find yourself in a spacious open plan living, dinning and kitchen area with comfy sofas gathered around an inglenook fireplace with a woodburning stove. Spend evenings in front of a roaring fire with your feet up and a drink in hand after a busy day exploring Exmoor or the coastline of North Devon. Also on the ground floor, you’ll find a big dining table where you can enjoy family dinners while planning the next day’s adventures.
Head upstairs to the two bedrooms both with new ensuite bathrooms. The master bedroom “Luscombe Pine” has a grand four poster bed and antique furniture. The bathroom is well designed with a shower and bath included. The second double bedroom “Billy Down Pippin” just across the hall has a vaulted ceiling and an eclectic mix of colonial furniture. Both rooms are designed so you can kick back and relax after a day at the beach or walking in the national parks.
Outside, there’s a pretty garden area and patio where you can enjoy your meals alfresco in the warmer months.
Luckett’s 20 acres also include a large pond, fields, woodlands and rolling hills to enjoy. Sit out in the evenings with a glass of wine in hand and watch the sun setting over the hills.
North Devon is home to some spectacular landscapes and is a fantastic destination for keen walkers and outdoor enthusiasts. There are vast areas of remote moorland, dramatic coastal vistas with sweeping beaches and high cliffs, rolling hills and wooded valleys. There are many walking routes and Knowstone is located on the Two Moors Way, a coast to coast path from Lynmouth on the North Coast to Ivybridge in Dartmoor. After a long day exploring the countryside, reward yourself with a visit to the friendly pub just five doors down from Enfield House which has a Michelin Star.
