Outdoor Dining – Roccbox Pizza Oven
Part of the fun of staying at Hawkings Hideaway is enjoying the inside and outside areas! The new setup offers more outdoor space to enjoy, no matter what the weather brings! The Scandinavians refer to it as “Hygge”, a mood of coziness, comfortable conviviality with a feelings of wellness and contentment!
Food is an important part of this and at the hideaway you have several choices. You can cook inside (on the electric hob) or even better use the outdoor firepit and grill with cast iron pans. Old school cooking and barbeque, the South Africans call it “Braai” and are experts at this.
We’ve now added an optional extra, a Roccbox pizza oven, who doesn’t love a pizza! The Roccbox is a restaurant-grade (gas fired) oven, is easy to use, gets up to temperature quickly and makes great pizzas. When you hire the pizza oven (£30 hire) we provide dough (2 pizzas) and ingredients for margherita pizzas. Of course you can buy and add your own ingredients to your taste.
More Outdoor Space – Undercover
During October 2022 we added an extension to the hut, you can now enjoy the outdoors even when the sun isn’t shining!
The addition of a breakfast bar means you can cook and eat at the bar whilst taking in the glorious views and wildlife.
The extension certainly creates more outdoor covered space but also helps to extend the indoor area or make it feel as if there is more room. Great for kicking off your boots before you go in the hut or wiping down your dog after a walk in the fields.
Improved Shower
The setup of our shower was great in the summer but a little challenging in the colder months when the temperature was at or close to freezing. With this in mind we redesigned the unit and fitted a new boiler. It now works great throughout the year!
Hot Tub
The wood burning hot tub has been a great success and loved by of our guests! However we have made a couple of changes which we think will mean it’s easier and more fun to use. We’ve moved the stove so its now facing inwards towards the decking and seating area, it’s now easier to keep the the fire stoked and the new glass door means you can enjoy and see the fire!
No More Muddy Feet!
We’ve improved all the walkways and access to the hideaway resulting in no more muddy feet (not guaranteed).
Sandford Orchards
We love our local produce and Sandford Orchards is a craft cider maker from the heart of rural Devon, dedicated to making the best cider, fresh from the West country. Enjoy a bottle of Devon Red on arrival!
